Dr. Thantrira is the head of Genomics and Precision Dentistry Research Unit, Faculty of Dentistry and Medical Genomics Cluster, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery and Graduate Diploma of Prosthodontics from Chulalongkorn University and an MSc in Paediatric Dentistry and a PhD at the Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology, King’s College London. Her multidisciplinary research centres combine clinical and research sections. The clinical team (clinician, geneticists, and genetic counsellors) provides genetic counselling for hundreds of patients each year who are affected by genetic disorders including skeletal dysplasias, neurological disorders, cancer, and metabolic syndromes. The research team (bio-informaticians and scientists) performs genome sequencing, bioinformatics, and functional genomics. The centres have published more than 200 international publications and are currently funded by the Newton Fund, Thailand Research Fund, Dental Association of Thailand, and Chulalongkorn University. The centres' discovery of new disease gene, phenotype, genotype, and patho-mechanism broadens the understanding of human diseases and brings new insight into the developmental process of multiple organs.
